OUR WHY
After several years coaching senior leaders, Executive coach Caroline Whitmey, began to notice a pattern with the male clients she was working with.
Successful, high-achieving and intelligent men were feeling – silently – stuck. They didn’t feel they could talk about their stress, doubts, or sense of burnout. They didn’t know where to turn.
Some needed a sounding board, some came with specific developmental goals. Others felt lost, alone, not great about themselves but not sure who to talk to about that.
Curious about the common themes coming to sessions, Caroline spent the following year researching into men, masculinity and statistics around mental health, She looked into how organisations were investing into talent wellbeing and development, and where men fitted within that. She delved into DE&I strategies, looking for insights into both how men were perceived and how they were feeling in the environments and cultures they spent most of their time in.
What she discovered was an eye opener
They were holding a lot, career pressures, family responsibilities, ageing parents, expectations, and rarely had a space to talk about how it actually felt. They didn’t want to burden their partners, or appear weak at work. And yet, behind the success, there was often self-doubt, exhaustion, or a quiet sense of disconnection which in turn was affecting wellbeing, performance and fulfilment.
This, coupled with the bleak reality of statistics around male mental health, death by suicide and burnout pointed to the fact that men, in particular, those in their 40’s and 50’s, are not ok. This became the demographic that Caroline wanted to focus on first.
The Gap That Sparked The Midlife Man
At the same time, Caroline saw an abundance of networks and wellbeing spaces for women, but almost nothing designed for men. That gap became the seed of The Midlife Man.
From One Coach to a Collective
What began as one coach’s idea has grown into a collective of world-class coaches, each dedicated to helping men gain self-awareness and the tools and strategies to develop, have purpose, reach their potential, and most importantly, feel fulfilled.
Based on demand, we now proudly work with men at any stage of life, be that elite athletes in their 20s or retiring leaders in their 60s.
THE REALITY
be the best version of yourself. whatever that means for you
OUR Mission
The Midlife Man is more than a coaching company for high achieving men, it’s a platform and space for raising awareness around men in the workplace and contributing towards creating a positive conversation around men, masculinity and role models for the next generation.
Our mission, through coaching, events and content, is to provide a dependable outlet for men – typically in high-pressure senior roles - where they can navigate their challenges, reach their goals, and build the mindset and mental muscle needed to thrive in today’s world.
This is a space for men where they can feel safe, championed, seen.
